HOW TO | Layering for the winter

December first.. It means that it's officially winter now (for most of us) and what better way to spend your dark and cold days by wearing knits?

Where I live it's quite hard to predict the weather (although lately it has been really cold). Sometimes it's enough if you just wear a knit and a thin jacket outside and other days it's like you need to wear two jackets. So today we're going to talk about layering, not just layering but layering for the winter.

But how can you add layers to your knit sweaters without looking like a Michelin man?
We start of with a base outfit, that is basically what you would wear if you don't want to catch pneumonia or catch a cold, in the winter (although it really depends on your high tolerance for cold weather). Then the number of layers is decided. Is it a mild winter day? Then a two layered outfit is enough to withstand the cold and run some errands. More layers means the colder the weather.

Click below for more details for each outfit.

2 LAYERS | Winter Hunter

This outfit is when the days are mildly cold. I easily get warm after being in the cold for a while, so this outfit is when it's not too cold but still need to do stuff outside. At work for example. I like the combination of the brown with the speckling of the sweater, which oddly suits together. Both garments have this industrial zippers on them, which gives it cohesion and more edge.

3 LAYERS | Snow White

This outfit is appropriate for a mild to chilly winter. The white leather jacket is quite thick and warm, which makes it suitable for the weather. The blouse is added to maximise the warmth and adds another layer to the outfit. I like the idea of wearing white and bright colours in winter instead of the dark and moody colours, why not make the days a bit more fun and colourful? Especially because we already have so little sun in the winter days.

4 LAYERS | President Snow

I like to call the four layered look the, president Snow, outfit (yes it's a reference to the Hunger games trilogy). This outfit will get me through any icy wind and snow. It even reminds me a bit of the character the name it based on. The cape gives the look a royal chic touch to it and reeks of authority, which president Snow definitely had.
